A few words about me

Konstantina Mpogiatzi, clinical psychologist

Licence to practise: ΔΔΥΚΜ/Μ.Ε.Θ.526101(15495)/25-08-2021

My name is Konstantina Mpogiatzi and I am a Clinical Psychologist, a graduate of the School of Psychology of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, with a Master’s degree (MSc) in Clinical Psychology from the same university and a licence to practise.

My professional path includes experience in different mental health settings, through my work with organisations such as the Hellenic Centre for Mental Health and Research (E.KE.PSY.E.), the 2nd University Clinic of the Psychiatric Hospital of Thessaloniki, the Applied Psychology Laboratory of the Aristotle University, the Alzheimer Society and SOPSY, as well as private specialist therapy centres.

In recent years I have been working as a Clinical Psychologist, offering individual psychotherapy to adults in my own private office, while I am also co-owner of a specialist therapy centre in Kalamaria, Thessaloniki.

As part of my training, I have completed a two-year training in Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for Children and Adolescents at the Hellenic Association for Behaviour Research (EEES). I place great importance on continuous training and regular clinical supervision, while also enriching my knowledge through specialised programmes in clinical psychopathology, trauma and current therapeutic approaches.

In my psychotherapy work with adults, my main approach is Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT). I care about understanding each person within their own context, taking into account their needs and difficulties in the present, as well as the experiences that have shaped their personal path. My experience with children, adolescents and parents has also deepened my understanding of emotional development and of the importance of early relationships.

My therapeutic stance is one of warmth, empathy, acceptance and respect for the uniqueness of every person. I value building, step by step, a safe space for expression and reflection, where a person can explore their difficulties, approach difficult or traumatic experiences from the past, and better understand themselves — their emotions, their thoughts and the patterns that affect their life and relationships.

I believe that real change takes time, consistency, active participation and a therapeutic process that adapts to each person’s needs and pace.

Services

Individual Psychotherapy for Adults

In person in ThessalonikiOnline

  • A safe space

Individual psychotherapy offers a stable, safe and confidential space where we can talk freely about whatever is on our mind.

  • The therapeutic alliance

Through the therapeutic alliance, which is built gradually with trust and collaboration, we explore the difficulties we face, the experiences that have shaped us and the patterns that affect the way we think, feel and relate to others.

  • Understanding and relief

The aim is a deeper understanding of our difficulties and needs, psychological relief, and the search for new, more helpful ways of handling whatever troubles us.

Sessions last 50 minutes, while their frequency and pace are agreed together, according to each person’s needs.

Below are some of the main difficulties that often lead people to seek psychotherapeutic support.

Areas of focus

What we can work on together

  • Persistent anxiety, panic attacks and phobias can have a real impact on everyday life, often bringing worry, physical tension and avoidance of situations. In psychotherapy we first work on relief and on managing the symptoms, recognising the cycles that keep anxiety going. Gradually, and safely, we explore the deeper fears and the experiences that may be connected with it.

  • Persistent sadness, loss of interest and pleasure, tiredness and negative thoughts can weigh heavily on everyday life. Through psychotherapy we recognise the thoughts and behaviours that keep the distress going, such as harsh self-criticism and withdrawal, and explore ways to change them step by step. The aim is emotional relief and reconnecting with what truly matters to us.

  • The way we see ourselves shapes the way we relate to others. Insecurity, the need for reassurance and the fear of rejection can make it hard to express our needs and set boundaries. In psychotherapy we recognise the patterns that repeat and look for more helpful ways to express ourselves, set boundaries and build a steadier, more supportive relationship with ourselves and with others.

  • Losing someone we love, a separation or a major change in life can bring deep sadness, uncertainty and feelings that are hard to handle. In psychotherapy we make room for your own experience of loss, work through the feelings that come with it and explore how to live alongside what has changed, in a way that respects your own pace.

  • Early relationships and difficult experiences help shape our beliefs about ourselves, others and the world. We learn to meet expectations, to seek acceptance and to protect ourselves in ways that were once necessary but may limit us today. In psychotherapy we explore how past experiences still affect the present, and how we can recognise and change patterns that now hold us back.

  • Anger, frustration and finding it hard to handle intense emotions can affect our decisions, behaviour and relationships. In psychotherapy we recognise the thoughts and situations that trigger our emotional reactions and explore how to respond with more awareness and flexibility. The aim is to develop more helpful ways of handling emotions and facing difficulties.

The areas above are examples. Every request is unique, and in psychotherapy we adapt the process to your own particular needs and experiences.

“The central aim is to create a safe space for expression and understanding.”

– Konstantina Mpogiatzi

The approach

Cognitive behavioural psychotherapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a structured, research-based psychotherapeutic approach built on the connection between our thoughts, emotions and behaviours. The way we interpret situations affects how we feel and react. Our interpretations are linked to beliefs that take shape through our early experiences and relationships and are reinforced over the course of our lives.

Through a collaborative therapeutic process, we explore the beliefs and recurring patterns connected with our difficulties, examine our interpretations and look for more helpful ways of thinking, handling emotions and facing challenges. At the same time, we come to understand the experiences that helped shape these patterns, aiming both at relief from today’s difficulties and at deeper change.

How thoughts, emotions and behaviours feed each other

The Lenses of Thought: How Do We Interpret the World Around Us?

Our experiences and beliefs shape the “lenses” through which we see ourselves, others and our relationships. Often, in moments of pressure or insecurity, our lens can “blur”, leading us to automatic interpretations that do not necessarily match reality.

Through therapy, we learn to recognise these thinking patterns, to examine our interpretations and to discover more flexible and realistic ways of understanding what happens to us.

A different view can make a difference.

We don’t need to push ourselves to think positively. We can learn to recognise our automatic thoughts, look at the evidence, and treat ourselves with more understanding and kindness.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

If you have any other question, you can contact me by phone before our first meeting.

How long does psychotherapy last?

Psychotherapy is a process that takes time, consistency and active personal participation. Real change is not only about relief from symptoms, but also about understanding ourselves, exploring our experiences and recognising deeper beliefs and recurring patterns that affect our life and relationships. How long therapy lasts depends on each person’s needs and goals.

What should I expect from the first session?

Our first meeting is a chance to get to know each other and begin exploring what brings you to psychotherapy. We will talk about the difficulties you are facing, how they affect your everyday life and what you would like to understand or change. You don’t need to have organised your thoughts or know exactly where to start. The conversation unfolds gradually, with respect for your needs and your own pace, so that together we can look at how we might move forward.

Do you offer online psychotherapy sessions? Are they as effective as in-person ones?

Yes, sessions can also take place online, by video call. Online psychotherapy is an evidence-based option, with research showing effectiveness comparable to in-person psychotherapy for many psychological difficulties. Sessions take place within the agreed therapeutic framework, with the same emphasis on confidentiality and on working together. For them to run well, you need a stable internet connection and a quiet, private space where you can talk comfortably.

Is therapeutic confidentiality kept?

Confidentiality is a core part of the therapeutic process. What you share with me in sessions is protected by professional confidentiality, in line with the principles of professional ethics and the law in force. Confidentiality may be lifted only in specific cases set out by law, such as when there is a serious risk to the life or physical safety of the client or of another person.

What if I need a different kind of support?

Every person’s needs are different and may change during therapy. If we find that additional support is needed, such as a psychiatric assessment or follow-up, or that a different setting of care would suit you better, we will talk about it openly and I will refer you responsibly to the right professional or service. Depending on your needs, this may mean working together with other professionals or a referral to a different setting of care, so that you get the support that is right for you.
